KITTY HAWK — Eric Dreelin, 54, of Kitty Hawk, NC, passed away at his home on January 19, 2024. He was born in Richmond, VA.
Eric put family and friends first. One could always count on Eric to come through for them. He loved his wife and children and did everything for them with perfection, just as he did for all of the projects he took on, helping others with honesty, respect, and integrity. Eric was a waterman, a mountain man, and passionately pursued many interests and adventures. He enjoyed fishing, surfing, boating, snowboarding, and wakeboarding. He was a valued member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church of Kitty Hawk, NC and The Church of the Outer Banks. He took pride in the custom home he built that showed his craftsmanship. Furthermore, he held a captain’s license, demonstrating his skill and passion for being on the sea.
Eric had diverse work experience that showcased his talent and dedication. He attended Saint Gregory the Great Catholic School in Virginia Beach, VA and Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, VA. He went on to graduate from The Stowe School in Stowe, VT and flight school at the North American Institute of Aviation in Conway, SC.
Throughout his career, Eric had many accomplishments. He was featured in Air and Space Magazine as the chief pilot working at Kitty Hawk Aero Tours. He also worked with various companies, including working as a pilot for Barrier Island Aviation in Manteo, NC, Ram Air Freight in Morrisville, NC, and NAIA Flight School in Conway, SC. He was an amazing photographer and worked beside his wife, Julie, at their company Beach Productions photography. Additionally, he made his mark as the owner and operator of Dreelin Construction.
Eric is preceded in death by his father, Donald Patrick Dreelin. He leaves behind a loving family and numerous friends who will cherish his memory. Surviving him are his wife, Julie Marie Dreelin; son, Fletcher Emmitt Dreelin; daughter, Kirra Sunshine Sarah Dreelin; mother, Jo Anne Anstett; sister, Erin Dreelin of East Lansing, MI; brother, Patrick Dreelin of Fancy Gap, VA; his nephews Alex Dreelin, and Adam Dreelin; and his niece, Hannah Dreelin.
A celebration of Eric’s life will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024, from 2:00 until 4:00 pm at Kitty Hawk Pier located behind the Hilton Garden Inn located at 5353 N. Va Dare Trail in Kitty Hawk, NC. Pastor Jamie Smith will officiate the service, honoring Eric’s remarkable journey.
During this time of mourning, may we find solace in the memories and legacy Eric leaves behind. His spirit will live on through his children, family, and community, and will forever inspire us to live life to the fullest, just as he did.
