KITTY HAWK — Marilyn Kay Pokorny went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 21, 2024. She was 77.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, John; her son Jeffrey John, MD (Anne) and daughter, Jody Lynn (Ross); her grandchildren John Russell, Christopher Thomas, and Caden John Pokorny, Charles Anthony and Jillian Laurel Farro.
She was preceded in death by her parents Loretta Marie (nee Nixon) and John Everett Harmsen; her sister Nancy McEntee (Rich).
Marilyn was born in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated from James Ford Rhodes High School. She met the love of her life and future husband, John, on February 6, 1966 over a ping-pong table at a Young Adults Club social. Marilyn married John Anthony Pokorny on April 15, 1967. They just celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary!
Marilyn spent her life in service to her faith, her family, and her community. She was a cheerful woman who was always willing to lend a hand or a hug. Over the years, Marilyn served the Catholic Church by being a Eucharistic Minister and by singing in the Choir. Her favorite charities to work for were Marriage Encounter, Christian Community Action and Rotary Club.
In death, Marilyn donated some of her organs to Miracles In Sight and Honor Bridge. She will be remembered for her generous spirit and for the loving wife and mother she was.
