May 1, 1951 – November 12, 2024
KILL DEVIL HILLS — Marna Glazebrook Gegenheimer, age 73, departed this life on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, after a long battle with heart disease. Born on May 1, 1951, in Hopewell, VA, to the late Richard Royster Glazebrook Jr. and Nellie Gray (Emerson) Berry, she leaves behind her precious family, whom she loved so very much.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 55 years, Randy, of Kill Devil Hills, NC; her two children, daughter Denell Gegenheimer of Glen Allen, VA, and son Mike Gegenheimer of Prince George, VA, and his wife, Liz, whom she affectionately considered her bonus daughter. In addition, she is also survived by her brother Jerome Herbert Glazebrook of Leesburg, VA, wife Katherine, and three nieces, Kelly, Taylor, and Jennifer. While most knew her as Marna, her favorite nickname was Oma, and she will be fondly remembered by her four grandchildren: Evan Foster, Lexie Foster, Michael Gegenheimer, and Owen Foster. She gave the tightest hugs and warmest snuggles to each of them as often as she could. She gushed with pride to anyone who would listen as she shared her family’s activities, achievements, and as many photos as one would allow.
Marna had a successful 33-year career at Allied Chemical and Honeywell, now known as AdvanSix. She began as an Administrative Assistant and eventually retired as a Systems Administrator, where she was responsible for training countless employees across the country on the plant’s software. If there was a question that needed to be answered, she was often the go-to person, ensuring everything was running smoothly.
Outside of work, Marna was an avid bowler, coaching her own children through their youth and participating in leagues at both Oaklawn Bowl and Walnut Hill Lanes. Marna was also known for her holiday Christmas parties that brought many of her friends and family together to celebrate, just as her mother, Nellie, had done for years before her.
Once retired, Marna and Randy moved to their retirement oasis in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where they enjoyed quiet time and their evening “Happy Hour” under the tree until the family arrived for their summer vacations. After their move, Marna continued her love for bowling and participated in several leagues, serving as the current President of the Outer Banks Bowling Association. Through bowling, she made wonderful friends, including Dawn Sayre, Kay Knowles, Kathy Walke, Sherry Rollason, and Sue Hawley. She cherished their Tuesday tradition of bowling, lunch, and card playing.
Marna was a kind, supportive, and loving woman who will be truly missed by the many who loved her big smile and joyful laugh. She always reminded those she loved how much they meant to her. At her request, there will be no public services, and the family appreciates the support and thoughts during this time. In lieu of flowers, and in Marna’s memory, please consider a donation to www.goredforwomen.org or www.heart.org to support the advancement of research for heart disease.
