Outer Banks Forever seeks next Director
Outer Banks Forever, the official nonprofit partner of Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site and Wright Brothers National Memorial, seeks its next Director to lead it in its mission to protect and enhance these special places, now and forever.
Outer Banks Forever is a philanthropic branch of Eastern National (EN), a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that promotes the public’s understanding and support of America’s national parks and other public trust partners by providing quality educational experiences, products and services. Eastern National is leading the Director search.

Nicole Erickson, Development Manager at Outer Banks Forever, will serve as Outer Banks Forever’s Interim Director during the Director search period.
The Opportunity:
Outer Banks Forever’s Director is a key member of the EN leadership team and oversees the sustainability and growth of the Outer Banks Forever philanthropic branch. The Director will operate with a high level of autonomy to establish growth strategies in support of three of the most beloved and visited national parks on the Eastern Seaboard.
The Director will manage a small team with access to administrative support provided by EN’s headquarters departments, including human resources, administration, finance, information technology and marketing.
The Director collaborates with Eastern National leadership and the National Parks of Eastern North Carolina (NPS) including Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site and Wright Brothers National Memorial to identify and implement priority projects and programs that benefit the Outer Banks national parks.
The Director will develop branding and marketing strategies that raise the visibility of Outer Banks Forever and expand fundraising initiatives, including securing funding from high-net worth individuals, corporations, foundations and other sources.
The Director is responsible for building strong relationships with the community including maintaining an advisory Board of Directors and collaborating with local, state and federal agencies and hosting events, both locally and nationally, in support of strategic initiatives.
This position is based in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Desired Experience and Competencies:
- A minimum of five years leadership experience with an emphasis in building successful philanthropic and fundraising strategies, preferably within public lands or similar organizations.
- Expertise with public-private partnerships and growth strategies for start-up organizations in a philanthropic and/or nonprofit environment.
- Proven fundraising experience and success, including private philanthropy, major donors, major capital campaigns, corporate donations and government grants; experience in major capital and annual giving campaigns.
- Demonstrated staff leadership and development experience; able to inspire, motivate and encourage others.
- Experience advancing projects collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational development, project management, marketing, communication, public speaking and team management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to facilitate conflicts to find a common ground; adaptable and flexible in the face of changing conditions.
- Ability to travel independently to any location.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred.
- A passion for the Outer Banks and the Outer Banks national parks!
Compensation:
A competitive compensation package based on experience and a comprehensive benefits package – including relocation assistance to the Outer Banks, if applicable – will be offered.
