Dare County announces closures and cancellations due to impacts from winter storm
Due to expected impacts from the winter storm, Dare County offices will operate on a modified schedule on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 and Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
All Dare County offices will be closed on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, reopening on Thursday, January 23, 2025, depending on weather and road conditions. Should there be any changes to the schedule, that information will be posted on DareNC.gov/WinterStorm.
Dare County Public Works has announced that there will be no trash collection on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. After your trash is collected on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, please secure your trash cans ahead of the severe weather. Regular trash collection is expected to resume on a modified holiday schedule on Thursday, January 23, 2025. Should there be any changes to the schedule, that information will be posted on DareNC.gov/WinterStorm.
The Dare County C&D Landfill, the Buxton Transfer Station and the Manteo Recycle Yard will be closed on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. These sites are expected to reopen on Thursday, January 23, 2025. Dare County Parks & Recreation
Hatteras Island Division (Fessenden Center):
All indoor and outdoor activities at the Fessenden Center—including open gym, basketball practices, fitness classes, youth dance, adult bingo, youth guitar and pickleball—in Buxton are canceled beginning Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 5 p.m. and continuing through Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Basketball practices at the elementary school are canceled as well.
All programs and activities are expected to resume on Thursday, January 23, 2025, depending on weather and road conditions. Should there be any changes to the schedule, that information will be posted on DareNC.gov/WinterStorm.

Northern Beach Division:
All indoor and outdoor activities for the Northern Beach Division—including open gym, basketball practice, the after-school program and pickleball—have been canceled beginning Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 5 p.m. and continuing through Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
All programs and activities are expected to resume on Thursday, January 23, 2025, depending on weather and road conditions. Should there be any changes to the schedule, that information will be posted on DareNC.gov/WinterStorm.

Virginia S. Tillett Community Center:
All scheduled programming at the Virginia S. Tillett Community Center—including fitness classes—has been canceled beginning Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 5 p.m. The gym at the Virginia S. Tillett Community Center will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 and will remain closed through Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

The Kill Devil Hills Library will close at 5:30 p.m. tonight instead of 7 p.m. as normally scheduled.
Additionally, the following library programs are canceled:
- Knit Knights, Kill Devil Hills Library, 5:30 p.m. (Tuesday, January 21, 2025)
- All Wednesday Storytimes at the Manteo Library (Wednesday, January 22, 2025)
- Tech Time at the Hatteras Library, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Wednesday, January 22, 2025)
- Pop-Up Library Event at the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Building (including the All Ages Storytime Program), 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. (Thursday, January 23, 2025)
Thursday Storytimes at the Kill Devil Hills Library and Hatteras Library are contingent on driving conditions. A decision will be made Thursday morning (January 23, 2025).
“Manteo During World War II,” scheduled to be presented by LaVern Parker Davis at the Manteo Library on Thursday at 2:30 p.m., will be rescheduled to a later date.
