Officer involved shooting in Manteo

On October 2, 2023, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Dare County Sheriff’s Office responded to a trespassing in progress call in the 1300 block of Burnside Road, Manteo, NC. When the Deputies arrived, an individual came at them with a knife. A Deputy fired their weapon, striking the individual, who succumbed to their injuries on the scene. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) was notified, responded, and is handling this incident. The Deputy involved is on administrative leave at this time. All inquiries need to be directed to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
