On April 23, 2020, at approximately 1:00 am, a Dare County Sheriff’s Office A-District Deputy was working the checkpoint at the Wright Memorial Bridge when a vehicle came through with four occupants from Virginia. The driver could not produce a valid driver’s license and was asked to pull over to the side of the road. While the Deputy continued their investigation, a Nags Head Police K-9 assisted and alerted on the presence of a controlled substance inside the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and numerous controlled substances were found. The occupants were run for warrants with one having two out of Dare County. Curtis Matthew Young, M/35, 2400 Block Hosier Rd, Suffolk, VA, was charged with (F) Possession of Heroin, (F) Possession of Methamphetamine and was released on a $5,000 secured bond. Robert James Perry Jr, M/31, 5800 Block Beachwalk Dr, Va Beach, Va, was charged with (M) Possession of Sch III controlled substance, and served with the (FTA) Fail to Wear Seatbelt and (FTA) DWLR. Perry was released on a $3,000 secured bond. The other two occupants were also from Virginia and were turned around at the checkpoint.
