Results Of The 60th Annual Surf Fishing Tournament
Team Advanced Fishing took first place in the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club 60th Annual Invitational Fishing Tournament with 49 fish totaling 168 points. This is the second year in a row that the Advanced Fishing team has taken first place in the tournament.
Placing second was Sons of Blackbeard with 14 fish and 146 points, followed by Ridge Anglers Surf Fishing Club with 13 fish and 128 points.
The top female team was Finz ‘N Grinz that placed sixth overall with 6 fish and 96 points.
A total of 120 six-person teams competed in the tournament.
Winning in the largest fish category were:
MEN
Largest Red Drum – 29-3/4 caught by Frank Taylor of the Singing the Blues team
Largest Bluefish – 24” caught by Cecil Duke of the Hotliners team
Largest Other Fish – 18” Speckled Trout caught by Randy Horne of the POETS Team
WOMEN
Largest Red Drum – 25-1/2 caught by Lori Taylor of the Fishing Lures team
Largest Bluefish – 21” caught by Donna Gutridge of the Reel Women team
Largest Other Fish – 19-1/2” Speckled Trout caught by Susie Perry of the Fishin’ Pelicans team.
The tournament is one of the largest surf fishing tournaments in the world with 720 fishermen competing for team and individual prizes. Along with 54 judges, families and friends, the tournament attracted over 800 visitors to Hatteras Island for the week.
