Registration opens for the 15th Annual NCBBA Red Drum Tournament on February 1
Registration will open for the 15th annual North Carolina Beach Buggy Association (NCBBA) Red Drum Tournament on February 1, with the tournament scheduled for Wednesday, October 23, to Saturday, October 26, 2024.
NCBBA Committee Chairman Mike Regan is working with his team to finalize some details for the event, held on the beaches of Hatteras Island.
“From the drive-through registration on the 23rd to the banquet on the 26th, we are hoping to host as many as 500 anglers who may fish on accessible beaches between Ramps 23 and 45, [also known as] South Beach Road,” stated NCBBA in a press release. “Anglers can choose their spot as there are no assigned stations in our tournament.”
The 2023 NCBBA Tournament featured a record 455 anglers with 120 red drum caught and released.
Once again, two-session judges will be eligible for a $ 1,000 cash prize for the largest drum caught by a judge, while also vying for additional prizes which totaled over $13,000 in value in 2023. President Al Adam, acting Head Judge for 2024, has started reaching out to last year’s judges and hopes to secure assignments for those wishing to return, including some who have judged every preceding tournament.
“Join us! Be an angler, one of our nearly 100 volunteers who help us, or both!” stated NCBBA. “Once again there will be individual and team categories. Our tournament is unique because team members are also eligible for individual prizes. It’s a great family event and we had a number of family groups participate in last year’s tournament.”

“Make your plans, [and] register early. Tourney shirts are guaranteed for those who register by September 25. After that, limited sizes will be available for purchase. So, make your housing arrangements and have all spring and summer to be excited about the event.”
