Coastal Humane Society, Feline Hope and Friends of Felines Hatteras Island are launching a new program to help Dare County residents feed their pets through this COVID-19 pandemic.
Operation Feed Our Pets will stock dog food, cat food and cat litter in local food banks so residents can get food and supplies for their furry family members. “Our pets are a source of love, comfort and companionship at this time. The last thing our OBX families need to worry about is how to feed their pets. We can help take this worry away” said Patti Bourexis, Coordinator, Coastal Humane Society.
Operation Feed our Pets is currently working through the Beach Food Pantry in Kitty Hawk, Source of Hope Food Pantry in Manteo, Lifeline Outreach OBX in Salvo, Hatteras Island Food Pantry in Buxton, and the Tiny Food Pantry in Avon. Jan Rhymer, Treasurer, Feline Hope stressed, “This is not a one-time thing. We’re committed. We’re going to help keep these food pantries supplied until we’ve passed this crisis.”
Coastal Humane Society, Feline Hope and Friends of Felines Hatteras Island are all small volunteer 501(c)3 organizations that help Dare County dogs and cats, pet owners and caretakers through multiple community wide programs.
How to help? Debbie Martin, Director, Friends of Felines Hatteras Island, urged “Yes, we welcome cash donations for Operation Feed Our Pets. Give through our individual websites or send a check to Coastal Humane Society, P.O. Box 1331, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948. Mark your donation as ‘Food’ and we’ll take it from there.”
