The Dare County Library has announced that all three branches—the Kill Devil Hills Library, Manteo Library and Hatteras Library—as well as the entire East Albemarle Regional Library system, will upgrade their servers and software from Saturday, February 18, 2023 through Tuesday, February 21, 2023. This upgrade may impact users’ ability to access certain online services and other databases, such as the online catalog, Cloud Library and the NC Kids Digital Library, while the servers are offline.
In addition, please note that libraries located in Dare, Camden, Currituck and Pasquotank counties will be closed Monday, February 20, 2023 in order to allow all library staff members to attend training on the upgraded software.
“Although this upgrade involves numerous behind-the-scenes changes, we are sure our users will find our new online catalog much more visually appealing and easier to navigate,” said East Albemarle Regional Library System Director Jonathan Wark. “Searching for books and materials, browsing, and getting recommendations will be easier than ever. With this major software upgrade we will have more features, including the ability to notify you by email before your library card expires and, soon, the ability for automatic renewals of most library materials.”
While the upgrade is taking place, Dare County Library users may experience disruptions in one or more of the following services:
- Online library catalog and account access at www.EARLibrary.org
- Ability to place holds or renew checked out books online
- Access to Cloud Library eBooks and eAudioBooks
The libraries will all reopen for their regularly scheduled hours on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.
“A great deal of planning has gone into making sure disruptions to service are kept to a minimum and that patrons will find the enhanced website to be well worth the inconvenience,” said Wark.
