Dare County has announced that the rescheduled date for the Dare County Animal Shelter ribbon-cutting ceremony will be Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at 11 a.m.
Originally scheduled for Friday, March 19, 2021, the event was postponed earlier this week due to forecasts for inclement weather from a severe weather outbreak.
Although county officials are disappointed by the delay in hosting the ribbon-cutting ceremony in partnership with the Outer Banks SPCA, Dare County has decided to offer the community a sneak peek of the brand-new shelter by creating a virtual walk-through tour with Chrissea Rothrock, director of shelter operations for the Outer Banks SPCA.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings, the ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 31 will not be open to the public; however, the event will be livestreamed on the county’s YouTube channel beginning at 11 a.m. that day.

A video of the ceremony will also be posted on the Dare County YouTube channel after the event for those who are unable to tune in to the livestream.
A larger in-person event to celebrate the opening of the new Dare County Animal Shelter with the Outer Banks community will take place later this year after COVID-19 restrictions begin to loosen.
The new shelter, which was completed earlier this month, is now open to those who are looking to adopt a new four-legged friend. Please note, however, that due to COVID-19 there are limits on the number of people who are permitted to be inside the shelter at the same time, so visitors may experience a slight delay when accessing the facility.
