On Saturday, April 26, from 10 am to 1 pm, the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Civic Association (RWSCA) will host its third annual Earth Day Celebration at the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Building, 23646 NC Hwy 12 in Rodanthe (across from the Chicamacomico Lifesaving Station).
Festivities will be held rain or shine.
Check out the “Plant Swap” (take some/leave some) and pick up free native plants, including cardinal flowers, swamp milkweed, and more. Enjoy planting stations for children big and small, as well as making seed balls for wildflowers and other crafts. Martin Somers will provide live music.
Various organizations will offer fun and information. Guests include:
- Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative
- National Park Service
- Hatteras Branch of Dare County Library
- Surfrider Foundation
- Dare County Master Gardeners
- NC Cooperative Extension
- Black Seed Saving Collective
- Beekeepers and Birdwatchers from Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo
Raffles will benefit the RWSCA general fund, which supports pathway beautification and more in our three villages. Multiple themed baskets are being gathered, but live plants, including a black Italian fig tree, will also be included in the raffle.
Local businesses support the celebration with financial sponsorship and donations, with more to come. We appreciate our donors, including:
- Surf or Sound Realty
- Brindley Beach Realty
- Midgett Realty
- Ace Hardware in Avon
- Conners Supermarket
- Buxton Village Books
- Home Depot Kitty Hawk
- Hatteras Island Pet Resort
- Island Garden Center
This year, we will also host a seed-saving workshop during our event. At 11 am, Josie Walker of the Black Seed Saving Collective will guide us through how to save this year’s favorites for next year’s garden.
Chicamacomico Banks Fire and Rescue will serve grill items with donation proceeds to benefit the Department.
Join the celebration and make the world a happy and healthier place to live.
