Local baker and owner of KM Creations in Avon, Kimberly Martin, is currently a contender for the title of “Greatest Baker,” (with an accompanying feature in Bake From Scratch Magazine), and the public’s help is needed to put this Hatteras Island resident on the national map.
The contest, which features bakers from all around the country and beyond, is accepting votes until Sunday night, December 7, and the community can cast a vote for Martin online via The Greatest Baker website until Sunday’s 10:00 p.m. deadline.
Per an August 2023 feature in the Outer Banks Voice, Martin opened her Avon bakery in November 2022, and since then, has made hundreds of cakes, cookies, pies, breads, and pastries. The Avon business is Martin’s first foray into running her own bakery, although the Frisco native has always been an avid baker, and has spent 35 years in the restaurant business.
After a successful first year of catering to Hatteras Island customers – and particularly during the busy holiday season – this recent nomination for the “Greatest Baker” prize from Bake From Scratch Magazine is icing on the cake.
Casting a single vote is free, and voters can purchase additional votes if they’d like by making a donation to the B+ Foundation, a non-profit pediatric foundation to help children with cancer and their families.
The top spot also comes with a $10,000 prize, which Martin intends to invest back into her Avon bakery business. For more information on the contest and to cast a vote for Martin, visit https://greatestbaker.com/2023/kimberly-martin.
