On Tuesday, July 11, from noon to 3:00 p.m., Hatteras Island’s own James D. “Keeper James” Charlet will be signing and personalizing copies of his book, Shipwrecks of the Outer Banks: Dramatic Rescues and Fantastic Wrecks in the Graveyard of the Atlantic, Globe Pequot Press. The Scotch Bonnet Fudge & Gifts is the bright yellow building at 51684 NC Hwy. 12 in Frisco, Hatteras Island.
The book is being sold internationally and has completed its first print run, so it is now available on demand. “Naturally, I am pleased with that. It has gotten great reviews on Amazon and other sites, so it is also doing very well nationally. But since I am a 30-year permanent resident of Hatteras Island, and since I wrote the entire book here, I am making a special effort to share this with Hatteras Island and the Outer Banks,” said James. “This particular business is famous for its fudge, but it also has one of the largest and most diverse selection of Outer Banks gift items.”
The Keeper James book has consistently sold out at the Cape Hatteras and Bodie Island Eastern National Book Stores and other local venues. “So, my wife (and business manager) Linda and I are looking for more “pop-up” local venues like the Scotch Bonnet. It is good for local businesses and for the folks coming to get a personalized book. We really enjoy relating to our guests, as well as helping the local economy,” say the Hatteras couple. As usual, special bookmarks with the place and date will accompany each book.
