Local educators awarded Bright Ideas Education Grants from Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative

The Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative (CHEC) has awarded $4,200 in grant funding to local educators in support of three innovative projects that will positively impact students on Hatteras Island.

These grants bring creative projects to life inside classrooms and expand learning opportunities for local students. Grants are awarded for projects in all subject areas, including music, art, history, reading, science, math, and more.

This year’s Bright Ideas grant winners are:

1. Evan Ferguson and Suzanne Jennette’s project, “College, Career and Life Readiness” will expand on a five-year progressive student program to prepare students for life after high school. This will benefit all students in grades 8 -12.

2. 

   Erin Del Monte’s project, “Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support” will aim to create a positive school climate and reduce poor behavior through the encouragement of positive behavior. This will benefit all students in grades 6-8.

3. Ashlee Garcia’s project, “Hurricane Buddies” was inspired by our community’s new Outer Banks Buddies. The goal of Hurricane Buddies is to provide opportunities for students to be with students, providing monthly events for free that will be open to all middle school and high school students.
