Hatteras Island Pet Resort is celebrating the addition of a professional dog groomer to its staff. Hannah Burton is now accepting grooming clients Monday through Friday at the Pet Resort in Rodanthe.
In recent years, pet owners on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands have faced limited availability and long drive times for getting their pets groomed. While Hatteras Island Pet Resort was able to offer some bathing and nail-trimming services in the interim, owners of breeds like poodles, doodles, bichons, and shih tzus have had few – if any – convenient options for having their dogs’ haircut.
Hannah relocated to the area from Greenwood, SC, at the beginning of June with three years of grooming experience already under her belt, as well as a semester of business school, which she will be continuing online in the fall.
“Getting to live at the beach and work doing something I love, it’s really cool,” says Hannah. “Regular grooming is one of the most important parts of keeping your dog healthy, especially if they have a poodle-type coat or a double coat [like a golden retriever or husky]. So being a part helping all these pets live their best lives is great.”
Her grooming clients are already singing her praises, too. “My goldendoodle Banks just had his first ear plucking and cleaning service with Hannah, and his ears are as clean as a whistle. He’s so much happier now and is no longer digging at his ears,” says client Dana Remsburg. “We have already signed up through the end of the year for haircuts and baths. Banks is going to look great and finally be able to get used to his groomer on a consistent basis so he’s not so nervous!”
