Staff at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island will dive into 2025 with a renewed commitment to animals and visitors.

Several priority endeavors include large, multi-day projects that can only be completed while the Aquarium is closed.

While the team works on-site to accomplish projects and enrich animal care, the Aquarium will close to the public Monday, Jan. 27-Friday, Jan. 31.

“This annual one-week closure is essential in allowing Aquarium staff to perform routine maintenance, repairs, and upgrades in preparation for the summer season. Much of the work achieved during this week is difficult to address when the public is on site, so we appreciate everyone’s understanding as we take the time to tackle these important projects,” said Larry Warner, Aquarium Director.

During the year, the Aquarium welcomes more than 280,000 guests, including students and volunteers.

Aquarium staff are looking forward to efforts during the week of closure that will elevate experiences and engagement as part of the mission of N.C. Aquariums to inspire appreciation and conservation of our aquatic environments.

The Aquarium will reopen Saturday, Feb. 1 at 9 a.m. and advance tickets are required. Visitors can plan ahead and reserve their tickets through the Aquarium website at: www.ncaquariums.com/roanoke-island.
