Ocracoke Alive is inviting Ocracoke Island artists to teach winter workshops introducing interested community members to different art media.
The format for these workshops from February to April is for two consecutive afternoon/evenings for Adult Students Workshops (for ages 15 and over).
In Student Workshops (for Ocracoke School students), instructors will work with a variety of Ocracoke School students over a couple of days.
The type and number of workshops depend on what artists come forth, said David Tweedie, executive director of Ocracoke Alive, which is sponsoring the workshops.
“We were trying to think of something to pick up spirits,” Tweedie said about the workshops.
Support for this program is made possible in part through donations received from “Music Across the Sound,” an Arts on the Pamlico Fundraiser, which was held in November at the Turnage Theater in (little) Washington, Beaufort County, and raised about $3,000 for Ocracoke Alive, Tweedie said.
Those funds were to directly help Ocracoke artists, he said.
“These workshops are a great way for activities for island residents and to provide some income to artists,” he said.
Teaching spots are limited. Funding is provided for the instructor and supplies. Classes will be free for attendees.
