Medicaid in North Carolina is changing. Beginning July 1, 2020, North Carolina Medicaid will move to Prepaid Health Plans. Approximately 1.6 million of the current 2.3 million Medicaid beneficiaries will transition to NC Medicaid Managed Care. Four health plans are available to residents in northeastern North Carolina. On March 1, 2021, notifications were sent to those individuals informing them that the Open Enrollment period runs from March 15, 2021 through May 15, 2021. If you are on Medicaid, that means during this time you need to select a health plan. If you do not select a plan, after May 15, 2021, you will be assigned a health plan.
To help you make a decision on which plan to choose, Dare, Currituck, and Pasquotank County Social Services have partnered with AmeriHealth Caritas of North Carolina, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, UnitedHealthcare of North Carolina, and WellCare of North Carolina to offer virtual Prepaid Health Plan fairs. Participants will learn what each of the plans offer and be able to ask questions.
There will be four events to choose from:
- March 30, 2021 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
- April 6, 2021 from 12:00-1:00 p.m.
- April 13, 2021 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
- April 20, 2021 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
