The North Carolina Coastal Federation’s northeast office is looking for extra hands from 9-11:30 a.m. Feb. 6 to help with debris cleanups of estuarine shoreline and roadsides.
There will be cleanups in Wanchese, Nags Head and Rodanthe. Trash bags, gloves and other cleanup materials will be provided.
Participants will be required to wear a mask or face covering while they work in their small groups and maintain safe distances during the cleanup.
Bring water, a snack and dress appropriately for the weather. Sturdy shoes for walking in wet areas are also recommended, especially boots. Feb. 7 is the rain date.
The federation is working to reduce the amount of marine debris in coastal shorelines and waterways and has worked with partners to develop a coastwide Action Plan. This year, the federation will be removing large scale marine debris in the Albemarle-Pamlico Sound with a grant award from the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration’s Marine Debris Program. The federation will coordinate the project in partnership with Dare County and the state Division of Coastal Management.
