UPDATE: Hatterasity Bluegrass Festival is on the Horizon
Hatterasity 2017 will feature national and regional bands performing traditional bluegrass over two days at the Hatteras Village Civic Center, beginning at 5 pm Friday, May 5 and ending with a grand finale at 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 6.
“We are so fortunate that we were able to reschedule most of the bands that we had lined up last October, before Hurricane Matthew decided to visit,” said organizer Pete Pappalardo. Pappalardo will also be performing with the Hatteras Irregulars, a group composed of members of The Crop Circle Agents and Chad Darou and Stealing Time, both Hatterasity regulars the last two years.
Special Consensus – also performing at the event – has won awards and accolades for their tight harmonies and driving bluegrass selections, including an Emmy Nomination for Best Bluegrass Album in 2013 and three International Bluegrass Music Awards, the most recent in 2016. The group is soon to celebrate 40 years of touring and playing, a remarkable achievement in the music profession.
Danny Paisley and the Southern Grass hail from southern PA, where the Lundy and Paisley families have been favorites since the beginning of the bluegrass genre in the post war years. Danny was the IBMA male vocalist of the year in 2016 and continues the legacy of his father Bob Paisley, one of the pioneers of bluegrass.
Blackwater Tradition hails from the low country of Virginia, and are a favorite in the Richmond and Tidewater region. The Newsome family comprise three of the four members of the group, with father Curtis on bass and sons Curtis Junior and Travis on banjo and mandolin.
The Hatteras Irregulars round out the talent for the two day festival, performing original and traditional bluegrass. All of the band members are multi-instrumentalists who have delighted audiences in the northern tier of PA and throughout upstate New York for decades.
There will be a bluegrass jam at The Breakwater Inn on Thursday evening, beginning at 7 pm, with no cover charge. Doors for the festival open at 4 pm on Friday and at noon on Saturday, and tickets are $25.00 per day or $40.00 for the weekend. Active service members and veterans tickets are $20.00 per day or $30.00 for the weekend, and island locals receive the same discount. Kids 12 and under are free, and food will be available during the festival. There will be a 2 hour dinner break on Saturday from 5 until 7.
