12th Annual Rock The Cape to kick off summer on Hatteras Island next week
Numerous musicians, over 20 visual artists, and eight art galleries will participate in the 12th Annual Rock The Cape, which will be held on Hatteras Island June 6-7.
A free, family-friendly outdoor art show and concert will be held on Thursday, June 6 from 2pm to 7pm on the lawn at Kitty Hawk Kites’ Waves Village Resort in Rodanthe.
The Rock The Cape Art Show includes over 20 local artists selling their original, handmade arts and crafts, and the concert will feature live music by a group of Hatteras musicians, a unique blend of Celtic music by Nova Scotian duo Cassie and Maggie, and pop, funk and soul tunes by four-piece band Night Routine. There will also be a special performance by students from Hatteras Island Community Strings.
“Hatteras Island Community Strings is a Hatteras Island nonprofit that provides free group music lessons for children in ukulele, violin, and guitar under the instruction of Jessie Taylor,” said Hatteras Island Community Strings President Kelly Williams. “We are looking forward to our first performance at Rock the Cape! Some students from our ukulele group will be performing Amazing Grace, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, and Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Students will also be playing two surprise songs, so please come out and join us for another amazing event hosted by Dare Arts!”
There will also be delicious food available to purchase from Good Winds Restaurant and free yard games provided by Kitty Hawk Kites during the concert and art show.
Pea Island Art Gallery, Studio 12, Swell Art: Gallery + Gifts, Artistic Treasures, Red Drum Pottery, Blue Lagoon, Family Jewels, and Blue Pelican Gallery, Gifts + Yarn will be participating in the Rock The Cape Gallery Tour on Friday, June 7. This event is a free, all day, self-guided tour of these eight Hatteras Island art galleries.
The participating galleries will have demonstrations, classes, sales, live music, food, drinks, and more happening at their locations. For specific details about what each gallery is doing for the Rock The Cape Gallery Tour, visit DareArts.org/rockthecape.
