Filling in the Blanks of Hatteras Island’s Earliest Roots
On December 7, 2019 Researcher Mel Covey held an open forum discussing his research on the early settling of Hatteras island by Europeans. His compendium of research, compiled over the years, includes biological and historical data. The findings within help to fill in the existing gaps in knowledge about who may have settled on the Island as far back as the late 1600s.
Covey also has collected significant geological data and observations to help get a better picture of the timeline of changes to the island’s topography and ecology over the past centuries.
