The recital will feature the twenty-seven students who are receiving free music lessons at St. John United Methodist Church (UMC) with musician Jessie Taylor, and as a fundraiser, there will also be a bake sale at the concert to help raise money to keep the program going strong.

Hatteras Island Community Strings originated this August after a parishioner donated $10,000 for children to receive free music lessons in ukulele, violin, or guitar. The church purchased gently used instruments that are loaned to the students, and the grant is also used to compensate the classes’ instructor.

Hatteras Island Community Strings also recently received a generous donation from the Capital City Four Wheelers, which held a raffle at their recent fishing tournament.
