New Site Manager announced for the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum

Mary Massie has been named as the new Site Manager for the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum (GOAM), per a recent announcement from North Carolina’s Regional History Museums.

Massie begins her role on April 15 and will be working with GOAM staff and the Director of Regional History Museums to strengthen the museum’s role in the local community, and serve the visitors and residents of the Outer Banks.
Massie served as Director of Programs & Education at Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest in Forest, Virginia, since 2019. Prior to this role, she served as Manager of Programs & Education and Programs and Events Coordinator at Poplar Forest, starting in 2013.
“Mary has a Master of Arts in Museum Studies from Johns Hopkins University and spent the majority of her career overseeing the daily operations and interpretation of this important historic house She,” stated Maria E. Vann, Director of Regional History Museums. “She is passionate about connecting museums to the community in which they exist and creating cultural institutions that see visitors come back again and again. Mary grew up vacationing in the Outer Banks and living there has been a dream for a long time. She looks forward to spending time with her fiancé, John and their five cats in their dream home.”
In March, a new Administrative Director of Friends of the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum was also selected for the museum, Hatteras Village native Dee Callahan.
