Road to Shake Hatteras Pop-Up Bazaar will be held on Monday, July 22; Shake Hatteras Music Festival returns on August 12
Join the Tri-Villages communities of Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo for a fun-filled Pop-Up Bazaar on Monday, July 22, that will serve as the warm-up act for the annual Shake Hatteras Music Festival on August 12.
Monday’s Pop-Up Bazaar will feature a vendor market with some of the finest arts, crafts, and local goodies that the Outer Banks has to offer. The event will also have a number of charity-driven activities, including a dunking booth, (sponsored by Beach Pharmacy), to benefit the KOA Care Camps, and a 50/50 raffle to support the first responders of the Chicamacomico Banks Water Rescue Team. There will also be a kite demo and exhibition by Reider Decker of Hatteras Island Sail Shop.
Delicious food and drinks will be available by nearby Tina’s Poolside Cafe at the KOA, and there will also be music and tunes throughout the afternoon by the Outer Banks’ own DJ Papa Squat.
The Pop-Up Bazaar will be held at the Cape Hatteras/Outer Banks KOA Resort’s soundside event site at 25099 N.C. Highway 12 from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on July 22. The event is free and wide open to the public, with a rain date scheduled for July 29 in case of inclement weather.
Three weeks after Monday’s Pop-Up Bazaar, the 3rd annual Shake Hatteras Music Festival will return to Salvo on August 12.
“Technically, this is the 4th Annual, but only the third [festival] named Shake Hatteras,” said festival organizer Barry Wells, explaining the origins of the festival’s “Shake Hatteras π” moniker for 2024.
The annual event is the brainchild of Wells – a longtime resident of the Outer Banks, and a fixture in the local entertainment and music scene.
Back in 2022, and through several decades of musical connections and friendships, Wells put together an impressive lineup for the first-ever official summertime music festival, with well-known local musicians, and Outer Banks newcomers from as far away as Chapel Hill and Asheville, N.C.
The August 12 festival will be held at “Tina’s Tavern,” which is an inside-joke name for Wells’ Salvo home, located at 27306 N.C. Highway 12. The expansive and casual outdoor venue should have plenty of elbow room for anyone who wants to stop by during the afternoon or evening, enjoy a little music, and have a fun time off the beach.
There is no fee to attend, however, donations will be accepted, and there will also be a 50/50 raffle to help pay the musicians who are traveling from miles away to make their Salvo debut.
Details about Shake Hatteras π – including this year’s roster of musicians and bands – will continue to trickle in and will be shared on the event’s Facebook page.
