Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Civic Association to host free Earth Day celebration on April 22
On Saturday, April 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo (RWS) Civic Association will host a free Earth Day Celebration at the RWS Community Building, across from the Chicamacomico Lifesaving Station in Rodanthe.
Festivities will be held rain or shine.
The event will kick off with local volunteers picking up supplies for the spring Adopt-a-Highway cleanup along N.C. Highway 12 from Rodanthe to Salvo.
Starting at 11 a.m., experience fun learning from gardening to sustainable living. Bring the family and enjoy planting stations for children big and small, which includes making seed balls for wildflowers. Adults can participate in a “Plant Swap” and pick up a free native plant (while supplies last).
Community and government agencies will be present to share information and tools for more sustainable and resilient living. Guests include:
- NC Cooperative Extension & Master Gardeners
- Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative
- National Park Service
- Dare County Library – Hatteras Branch
- Dare County Recycling
- Frisco Native American Museum
- Outer Banks Lighthouse Society
- Local Beekeepers from Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo
The RWS Civic Association will also be serving up grill items and a salad bar with proceeds to benefit its scholarship fund. Raffles will also benefit the scholarship fund which serves local students.
Several businesses are supporting the celebration with financial sponsorship and donations. Early support from Surf or Sound Realty, Midgett Realty, Ace Hardware in Avon, Conners Supermarket, Buxton Village Books, Hatteras Island Pet Resort, and Waves Coffee and Candies is greatly appreciated.
Come join the celebration and make the world a happy and healthier place to live.
