AVON — Orville Celestial Scarborough, 78, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2007in a Norfolk, Va., hospital. Mr. Scarborough was born in Avon andwas a retired First Class Boatswains Mate with the U.S. CoastGuard. He was a member of St. John’s United MethodistChurch, a 33rd Degree Mason with the Hatteras Island Masonic Lodge anda member of the Scottish Rite and York Rite.
He was the son of the late Celestial and Sudie Gray Scarborough.
Mr. Scarborough is survived by his wife, Edith Gray Scarborough, of theresidence; a daughter, Darlene Scarborough, of Avon; three sons,Richard Scarborough of Newport, N.C., Billy Scarborough and OrvilleScarborough, both of Avon; a sister, Lillian Nordorcie, of Goldsboro,N.C.; a brother, Maxton Scarborough of Avon; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at St. John’s United MethodistChurch on Friday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. SusieFitch-Slater officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will followin the Scarborough Family Cemetery. The family will receivefriends at the church on Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
