POCOMOKE CITY, MD. – Wendell A. Howell, 68, died on Dec. 26, 2008 in Coastal Hospice at the Lake.
Mr.Howell was born on Hatteras Island. He was the son of the lateCharles A. Howell and Murrell E. Howell of Hatteras village and thenephew of the late Roberta Schaap of Hatteras village.
Mr.Howell was a retired fire officer for the Baltimore City FireDepartment Engine 43. He also served for seven years in the U.S.Coast Guard and worked for Bethlehem Steel. After his retirement from thefire department, he worked for the Eastern Correctional Facility on theEastern Shore of Maryland.
Heis survived by his wife of 27 years, Joann T. Howell; two sisters,Carole Howell and Vernell Dorner; and his children , Philip and TerryLeeson of Delaware, Kimberly A. Smith of Baltimore, Md., Paige and EricHalfpap of Baltimore, Md., Paul and Melissa Ziolkowski of Westover,Md., Joseph D. Adams of Pocomoke, Md., Charles A. and Kathy Howell ofHurricane, W.Va., and Dennis P. Howell of Pocomoke, Md.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Melanie Renee Leeson of Baltimore, Md.
He also leaves behind five grandchildren — Kayla, Charlton, Adian, Tyler, and Austin.
His cremains were sent to the U. S. Coast Guard for a ceremony and burial at sea.
A memorial stone will be placed in the Austin Burial Cemetery in Hatteras village.
Thefamily requests that in lieu of flowers, a tree or rose bush be plantedin his memory as it was his love to plant rose bushes and trees andcare for them.
