WANCHESE –HudeanRandolph O’Neal, 76, passed away at his residence on Saturday, Nov. 13,2010. A native of Manteo, he was the son of the late WarrenR.O’Neal and Pearl Daniels O’Neal. He is survived by his wife,Jennie Lee O’Neal, of the residence.
Mr. O’Nealhad adistinguished career in the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring as a ChiefWarrant Officer (CW04). After his time in the Coast Guard, he sailed asa Merchant Marine officer and also went on to become a captain with theNCDOT Ferry Division – Hatteras Inlet.
He was atrue man offaith, an avid fisherman and firearms expert. He won theNationalPistol Championship and was a White House Pistol Instructor under theKennedy Administration. Mr. O’Neal ‘s civic involvement wasextensive. He was a member of the Manteo Masonic Lodge #521, Order ofthe Eastern Star R.I. 79, Order of the Scottish Rite of New Bern, Orderof the Amaranth – Coastal Court 12, and the Khedive Temple of theShrine. He was also a Lost Colony alumnus, a member of Bethany UnitedMethodist Church, including the United Methodist Men and the AlbemarleEmmaus Community, and was a lifetime member of the Military Officers’Association.
Mr. O’Nealwas afather and hero to his children, Lynn O. Fidanzato and husband Mike,Peggy O. MacQuinn and husband Allen, Randolph W. O’Neal and wifeBonnie, Shannon O. Twiddy and husband Tommy, and Erin O. McCown andhusband Buddy. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Max L. Brown andwife Jami, Michael T. Brown, J. Hudean Schillings and wife Amanda, MaryL. Schillings, Dennis W. Schillings, Trenton R. O’Neal, Sarah K. Davis,Evan T. Davis, and Wallace H. McCown, III. Left to cherishhismemory are his great-grandchildren, Warren A. Brown, M. Taylor Brown,Jr., Allison K. L. Brown, and A. Scout Schillings.
The Funeralwill beheld at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov.16, at Bethany United Methodist Church inWanchese with Coast Guard honors rendered at Cudworth Cemetery,immediately following the church service. The visitation willbeon Monday evening at Twiford Funeral Home in Manteo from 6:30 to 8p.m. In lieu to flowers, donations can be made to the BethanyUnited Methodist Church, “Youth Room Fund,” P.O.
