BUXTON – Anderson Midgett, 88, of Buxton died Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 inNorfolk, Va. Born in Dare County, he was the son of the late TheodoreStockton Midgett and Ersie Midgett.
Anderson was an owner/operator of Midgett Realty. He was alsoinstrumental in developing tourism on Hatteras Island. In 1938 he,along with his brothers, began the Manteo to Hatteras Bus Line. He wasa founding member of what is now known as the Outer Banks Associationof Realtors.
Anderson was involved in the Outer Banks Masonic Lodges, Shriners andEastern Star, the consolidation of Hatteras Island schools, the OregonInlet Bridge, the Pirate Jamboree, Dare County Tourism Board, HatterasMarlin Club, the Hatteras Island Medical Center, and the HatterasVolunteer Fire Department, where he served as the first chief.
Anderson is survived by five daughters, JoAnne Woodbury (Max) ofWilmington, N.C., Susie Austin of Buxton, MaryDawn Judy ofChocowinity, N.C., Andrea Kobylinski (Jim) of Hatteras, and DebbyWillis (Amos) of Fredericksburg, Va.; one sister, Joyce Rucker ofBuxton; one brother, Stockton Midgett of Hatteras; seven grandchildren,Kellie Woodbury, Max Woodbury, II (Tali), Lisa Fletcher (Anthony), AndyJudy (Jackie), Ryan Kobylinski, Charity Gray, and Malachi Gray; andfive great-grandchildren, Noah Woodbury, Levi Woodbury, Opal Woodbury,Anna Fletcher, and Kennedy Hawkins. He was also preceded in death by abrother, Harold Midgett, Sr.
A funeral service will be held at the Buxton United Methodist Church onTuesday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Moseley and the Rev.Cory Oliver officiating. Burial will be in the family cemetery. Thefamily will receive friends and relatives at the church on Monday from6 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made tothe Hatteras Island Food Pantry, P.O.
