RODANTHE – Mahlon Masling Blue passed away onJan. 30, 2012. Born in 1956, he was the loving husband of JudithBlue; wonderful father of Colleen (Lance) of Chapel Hill, N.C., MahlonJesse (Amanda) of Norfolk, Va., and Meagan (Tyler) of Rodanthe; adoringgrandfather of Karina and Michael; and caring brother of A.C., Joe andDanny Blue.
Mahlon spent most of his childhood in Manitoba, Canada, Fayetteville,N.C., and Norfolk. At 18, he joined the U.S. Army during the VietnamWar where he made lifelong friends and was awarded the ArmyCommendation Medal for meritorious service. In Norfolk, he raised threechildren and worked at the Naval Base for more than 20 years. The leadsinger of the Sunnyland Blues Band and Louisiana Mudbugs, Mahlon was afounding member of the Natchel’ Blues Network. He retired and moved toRodanthe to be close to his beloved mother-n-law, Olive O’Neal Patrick.In Rodanthe, he enjoyed living at the beach, working, reading, andplaying guitar with the Frisco Jubilee. Mahlon had a deep passion forall music, and loved his family and friends dearly. He will be sorelymissed by all.
A memorial service will be held at the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo CommunityCenter at 23186 Myrna Peters Road in Rodanthe on Sunday, Feb. 12, at 2p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to Fair Haven United MethodistChurch or Duke Cancer Institute for esophageal cancer research.
