BUXTON– Evelyn Gard Hedrick, 78, mother of three, Nannie to many, died inElizabeth City on April 1, 2013 after a valiant battle with numeroushealth obstacles. Her last days were spent planning a celebration withher family. Greeting her in heaven are her parents, Herbert A. andAgnes Hooker Gard, brother Herbert A. Gard Jr., and grandson, EhanHooper.
Evelyn attended school in Norfolk, Va. She pridedherself in being the best Virginian -Pilot delivery person. Evelynenjoyed nothing more than celebrating occasions with her family andplaying card games with her friends.
While in Elizabeth City,she attended Freedom Baptist Ministries and considered the members herchurch family. In lieu of flowers, she would be honored to havememorial contributions made to the church’s building fund at PO BOX1668, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
Left to cherish her memory areTracey Hooper and John, their daughters Amber (Brett and daughterPaizley), Laura, and Abby; Kenneth L. Jennette and Jodi, and theirchildren Kane, Lanie, Olivia, and Caroline; Stacey Jennette-Meiggs andher son, Matthew. Also cherishing their lives together are her sister,Geraldine Stamper, and her sons, Michael and Douglas and theirfamilies, and her sister-in-law, Mary Gard and her son, Robin.
Evelynbecame very close with all those involved in her medical care over thelast decade and considered them all her family. Her family would liketo thank each of them for their care and love.
A memorialservice will be held Wednesday, April 3, at 2 p.m. at Freedom BaptistMinistries in Elizabeth City. A celebration of her life will follow theservice.
Entombment will take place at a later date beside her deceased husband, Bernard L. Jennette, in Buxton.
