AVON– John Raymond Kern III, 66, of passed away peacefully on Monday,Sept. 29, 2014 at his daughter’s home in Gainesville, Va. Born inWaltham, Mass., to Maj. Gen. John R. Kern Jr. (Ret. USAF) and DorisKern, he lived most of his life in Northern Virginia and Avon.
Johnwas man who enjoyed construction and painting. He wasself-employed as painter in Avon and also worked for Kern Construction,in Manassas, Va. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968. Hispassions included gardening, hunting, fishing, and cooking.
Johnwas proud of his son, John Kern IV, Catlett, Va., and three daughters,Natalie Kern of Queens, N.Y., Selina Kern, of Gainesville, and SabrinaJeane of Leesburg, Va. He is also survived by his two brothers, JamesKern of Culpeper, Va., and Douglas Kern of Haymarket, Va., and his soulmate of 47 years, Luisa Kern, of Queens, as well as his fivegrandchildren, nephews, cousins and other friends.

The family received friends onSaturday, Oct. 4, at the home of Selina Kern. John’s last request willbe honored Friday, Oct.10, when his family returns him toHatteras. A gathering will also be held on Oct. 11 from 2 until 5p.m. at 46042 Ocean Drive in Buxton. In lieu of flower,contributions can be made to an education trust plan for John’sgrandsons, Jackson and Liam Jeane. Funds can be sent to USAA at Ugift:USAA 529 College Savings Plan, P.O.
