JohnGilbert Kepler (“Jack”), 84, of Emporium, Pa., passed from this lifeinto heaven on July 10, 2015. He was born on Sept. 20, 1930 inDetroit, Mich., and came to Emporium in 1948 and lived there most ofhis life. In his early years, he loved playing golf at theEmporium Country Club, and in his later years, he spent much of histime at Cape Hatteras. When he wasn’t travelling in an RV withhis wife, Shirley, you could find him surf fishing or just hanging outon the beach. He served in the United States Navy for four yearsduring the Korean War as a hospital corpsman.
Mr. Kepler is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley; and two sonsand their spouses, Gregory and Crystal Kepler of Willow Street, Pa.,and Christopher and Aimee Kepler of Cary, N.C.; and two grandsonsBradley and Nicolas, sons of Gregory and Crystal. Also survivingMr. Kepler are two sisters, Patricia and Kathryn, as well as onebrother, Kenneth.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church inEmporium, Pa., on Aug. 8, at 11 a.m., with a private burial immediatelyfollowing in St. Mark Catholic Cemetery, next to his son, Matthew, whopreceded him in death in 1964. A reception of life will be heldimmediately after in the Church Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or any local food bank.
