BUXTON — Donald Clarke Casey, 77, died in his home on Friday evening, Jan. 29, 2016.
Heis survived by his wife of 55 years, Louise (Holbert) Casey and hisfour children: Jean-Louise (Casey) Dixon and her husband, David, ofBuxton; John D. Casey and his wife, Kimberly, of Carlsbad, Calif.;Michael C. Casey and his wife, Ansley, of Manteo, and Ellyn Clare Caseyof Kill Devil Hills.
Bornand raised in Johnson, Neb., the son of D. Clarke Casey and Lois(Carle) Casey, he was a long-time resident of Alexandria, Va., untilhis retirement to Buxton in 2006.
Mr.Casey attended the University of Nebraska, graduating in 1961 with adegree in chemical engineering. In 1964, he earned his law degreefrom the University of Nebraska as well. He earned his LLM inpatent law from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., in1966. He met his wife, Louise, in Lincoln, where they weremarried. In 1964, he joined the JAG Corps of the U.S. Army untilhis honorable discharge in 1969 as a captain. He served in thePentagon for his entire military career.
Mr.Casey practiced patent law in Washington, D. C., and Alexandria, Va.,for his entire career. He was active in local politics, servingon the Alexandria City Council for three terms from 1977 to 1986. He retired from private practice in 2006. He was a member of theBeverly Hills United Methodist Church in Alexandria.
Duringhis later years, Mr. Casey’s two passions were his gardening and hisgrandchildren. Mr. Casey is survived by 11 grandchildren: Jacob, Noah and Jonah Dixon of Buxton; Connor and Nora Casey ofCarlsbad, Calif.; Fletcher, Wallace and Bryson Casey of Manteo, andHayden Harper and Oliver and Elliott Barker of Kill Devil Hills.
Hevolunteered at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras. He was also active in the Cape Hatteras Masonic Lodge 698, serving asMaster of the chapter at the time of his death.
Amemorial will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 3 p.m. at St. JohnsUnited Methodist Church in Avon. In lieu of flowers, donations inhis memory may be made to the Hatteras Island Youth Education Fund atP.O. Box 750, Avon, NC 27915.
