RODANTHE — Thomas Francis Smigiel,age 81, of Rodanthe and formerly of Richmond, Va., died on Monday,April 11, 2016 in Nags Head. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., onOct. 6, 1934 to the late Thomas Martin and Mary Bubeck Smigiel.
Tom was an electrician for many years at Defense Supply CenterRichmond and retired from civil service in September 1994. AfterTom retired, he followed his dream of living on the OBX full-time,where he made many wonderful friends who became his second family. Tom lived the life he wanted, and he lived it well.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Valenta Smigiel, and his sister Jean S. Steinninger.
Tom is survived by his children, Karen S. Harris (Douglas) of ColonialHeights, Va., Kenneth M. Smigiel (Teresa) of Sutherland Va., and KerriS. Gideons (Adam) of Fort Riley Kansas, as well as seven grandchildren,Thomas Smigiel, Matthew Harris (Jordan), Lynnsie S. Peet (Brandon),Austin Harris, Erika Hess, Tye Gideons, Ella Gideons, and onegreat-granddaughter, Dani Peet, his sister, Janet Crosley of HomosassaSprings, Fla., three nieces and one nephew.
A memorial service will be held Friday, April 15, 1 p.m., at Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. 6917 S. Croatan Hwy, Nags Head.
