BUXTON — Delores Jennette Lewis, 88, died after a brief illness onDec. 16, 2016. She was a native of Dare County and proud of herfamily’s rich Hatteras Island heritage. She was librarian for manyyears at Cape Hatteras School, serving as counselor of life to highschool students and world-class storyteller and reader to elementarychildren, an avid surf fisherwoman and a colorful and vibrantpersonality in the community.
She was born on Jan. 31, 1928, one of 16 children of Ethel ScarboroughJennette and Nasa Farrow Jennette of Buxton. She was preceded in deathby her first husband, Elbert Gillikin; son, John Anthony Gillikin;daughter, Elberta Gillikin; and grandson, Clark Stratton.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Terry Lewis of the home;granddaughter, Pamela Johnson (Buddy); great-grandchildren, CameronJohnson and Christa Johnson; a brother, Nasa Jennette Jr.; a sister,Edith Jennette Bradley, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service and celebration of life for family and friends willbe held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Buxton United Methodist Church.
