She was in her home surrounded by love and family. Millie was a beloved member of the OBX community, cherished friend, trusted confidant and advisor. She will be truly missed by so many. Millie had a gentle spirit and a strength admired by all; she was truly one of a kind.

Millie made her home in the Outer Banks 35yrs ago and conveyed a passion to the community and a focus on the well-being of Sea Turtles. She was the founder of N.E.S.T. (The Network for Endangered Sea Turtles) established in 1995, a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and conservation of sea turtles and other protected marine wildlife on the Outer Banks. She brought her hairstylist skills to the island as well and succeeded in opening her own shop, Encore by the Shore, which will remain open.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no service at this time. A celebration of life is being planned near her birthday in September. In lieu of flowers or gifts, Millie asked that you think of her when going out of your way to support others in need whether it be volunteerism or a simple gesture of kindness.
