KILL DEVIL HILLS — Amy Lee (Bartels) Musil died on April 24th, 2022 in her home surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness. Born on May 8th, 1953, in Lincoln, Nebraska, she spent most of her young life in Minnesota where she graduated from Lincoln High School in Bloomington and later from the Lutheran Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis. As a registered nurse she worked in the operating room at Deaconess Hospital and after moving to Roanoke Island in 1978 she worked as a public health nurse at the Dare County Health Department. She touched the lives of many families for nearly 40 years as she selflessly served those who were near the end of their lives as a hospice nurse providing comfort to her patients with compassion and professional skill.
She knew well how to make a house into a loving home and it was her mission in life to serve God and her family and to bring comfort to those in need.
She enthusiastically enjoyed a lifetime of constructing and cruising on the large and small boats that carried her, her husband, Steve, and son, Dylan on many winter excursions to Florida, the Bahamas and beyond. She was a very capable first mate and always ready to take the helm, navigate a course, catch a fish or feed a hungry crew on a boat underway.
She is survived by Steve, her husband of 47 years; son, Dylan; brothers, Michael and wife Joellen, Arthur and wife Lori; and sister, Laurie and husband Bill. She was preceded in death by her parents, Naomi and Earl Bartels; her older sister, Susan Gilmore and her infant twin sister, Nancy.
A public service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church By-The-Sea on Thursday, May 5th at 10:30 am.
