MANTEO — Belva Godwin McDonald Weeks, 76, of Manteo, NC died Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at Peak Resources – Outer Banks.
Born February 9, 1944 in Vander, NC, she loved the Town of Manteo and its people and considered here her home.
She was famously known as the crossing guard at Manteo Elementary School for many years that would dress up in a variety of costumes as she helped children on their way to school. Over the years, Belva has received an award from the governor and even walked in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. In 2007, the Board of Education and Town of Manteo named the corner of Virginia Dare Road and Burnside Road “Belva’s Corner”.
Belva is survived by her daughter, Amy Godwin McDonald of Fayetteville, NC; niece, Gwen Poole Bell (Stewart) of Fayetteville, NC; nephew, C. Parker Poole III of Fayetteville, NC; sister, Elaine Godwin Nunnery (Fred); and many additional extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wildren Henry “Dick” Weeks; son, Troy Lee McDonald; and her parents, Lovette Council “Buck” Godwin and Lois Bell Godwin.
A private family service will take place at Manteo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to support the children’s charity of your choice.
