KILL DEVIL HILLS — Carol A. Byrd, 80, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2020 after a long journey of Alzheimers Disease. Carol was born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 16, 1940 and was the daughter of the late Walter A.B. Hetherington, Jr. and Mary M. O’Hare Hetherington. She is survived by her daughter Alison Byrd Urbanek and son Kendall D. Byrd both of Kill Devil Hills and grandson D. Glyn Byrd of Wilmington, NC.
Carol was predeceased by her husband, Norton E. Byrd, sister Nancy Harlow, brothers Walter Hetherington and Leo Hetherington.
Carol studied stenography and was a military wife for 20 years. She worked in the family owned business Byrd & Associates as a realtor and appraiser. In her part time she worked for the North Carolina Department of Forestry harvesting pinecones for future reforestation.
Carol loved her family, time with friends, and her cat. She was member of the Jolly Roger unofficial “Breakfast Club”. She enjoyed cruising with friends all over the Caribbean. She was an avid mystery reader always looking to solve the crime which lead her to her love of puzzles from crossword to jigsaw. Flowers and gardening were her passions with fresh cut flowers filling her home.
Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Restoration Ministries International, P.O. Box 1573, Lithia Springs, GA 30122.
