NAGS HEAD — Charles Marshall Griffin (Charlie, also known as ‘Grif’), 62, of Nags Head, North Carolina, passed away suddenly on March 4, 2024, due to a tragic boating accident in the Outer Banks’ Oregon Inlet.
Charlie was born on April 4, 1961, in Nürnberg, Germany to his parents, Charles Thomas Griffin and Emilie Käthe (Karen) Griffin.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Charles Griffin. He is survived by his mother, Karen Griffin, his former wife and long-time companion, Sandy Griffin, and his son, Jake Griffin.
Also surviving are his uncle William “Cook” Griffin (Julie) and their son Ryan, partner Wendy Hall and her family of Manteo, North Carolina, many beloved extended family members in both Germany and Ohio and a tremendous amount of dear, widespread friends.
Charlie’s adored dog, Leila, passed away in the accident and could always be found by his side.
A combined celebration of the lives of Charlie and Chad Dunn will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2024, between 1:00 and 5:00 p.m. at the Pavilion at Pirate’s Cove Marina. All are welcome and encouraged to bring a picture and/or story to share. Immediately following the celebration, there will be a ceremonial send-off to sea on the beach located at Jennette’s Pier.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests your support in establishing a jetty project for Oregon Inlet.
