SOUTHERN SHORES — Dave Butscher, 80, of Southern Shores, NC, passed away of natural causes on December 12, 2023. He was born on March 2, 1943, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Dave is survived by his devoted wife, Carol Butscher; their son, Ryan of Pittsburgh, PA; their daughter, Allison of Wilmington, NC; granddaughter Sydney of Pittsburgh, PA; grandson Jacob Gardner of Pittsburgh, PA; his beloved pet, Gus; and a host of other relatives and lifelong friends in Pittsburgh, the Outer Banks, NC, and his “Beach Family”.
Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Altha S. Butscher, his father, Alvin G. Butscher, and his sister, Verna McChesney.
Dave graduated from Baldwin High School in 1961 and then attended Youngstown State University, where he pursued higher education. After his studies, he proudly served in the U.S. Army. Following his military service, Dave had a successful career as an Investment Banker for PNC Bank. He was highly regarded for his expertise and dedication to his work.
Outside of his professional life, Dave enjoyed spending time waterfowl hunting, fishing, and enjoying having friends and family over for a drink and conversation. After moving to the Outer Banks, Dave spent his days working at the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau in Kitty Hawk, NC.
Dave joined the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 16-07 Outer Banks, North Carolina and dedicated over 20 years to the flotilla, division, and district, serving in multiple capacities. Dave’s commitment and contributions were recognized with numerous awards, including the U.S. Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation in January of this year.
