Donald Edmund Skakle, Jr. (Sea Bear) of Hatteras, North Carolina, son of Sybil Austin and Donald Edmund Skakle, Sr., was born 76 years ago on July 26, 1948, at Duke University Hospital, Durham, North Carolina. He went home to be with Our Lord on October 7, 2024, after several weeks of hospital care.
His wife, Gail Coriaggio Skakle of Hatteras; three daughters, Stephanie Snow Skakle of Wanchese, Chanel Brooke Skakle (Colin Michels) of Greenville, NC and Faye Dawn Skakle of Buxton; two sons: John Van Note of Rincon, Georgia, Carl Van Note of Chapel Hill, NC, two brothers, Stanley Andrew Skakle (Debbie) of Cary, NC and Clifford Dwight Skakle (Mavi) of Hamden, Connecticut, his mother, Sybil Austin Skakle of Chapel Hill and one grandson Henri Skakle-Goldhill survive him as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He will be remembered always for his love of life, his outgoing and infectious laugh, and his endearing never-met-a-stranger personality. He loved hunting and fishing and was a “Tar Heel fanatic.” But most of all, he loved his family and His Lord. Fair winds and following seas as you continue your journey on the other side, my captain.
A Celebration of Life for Eddie will be held on Wednesday, October 23, at 2 pm at the Hatteras United Methodist Church.
