AVON — Edith Darlene Scarborough, 75, of Avon, NC left this world on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at her home surrounded by family and loved ones. Edith was born and raised in the village of Avon. She was the daughter of the late Seymour Roosevelt Gray and Sara Margaret Gray. Edith enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great greatgrandchildren. Any number of them could be found at the home on any given day. It was well known that any child over the age of three had helped her mix pie bread (her specialty) up more than once.
Edith is survived by a daughter, Darlene Scarborough, three sons, Billy Scarborough, Orville Scarborough (Sally) and Richard Scarborough; her grandchildren, Anthony, Robbie (Jennifer), Raymond, Tori, Kayla Gore (Chad), Savannah, Christian, BJ and Eric; and her great grandchildren, Peyton, CJ, Sara, Anthony Jr, Alexis, Morgan, Noah and Garrett.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Orville C. Scarborough Sr. and son Richard Earl Nelson.
A public viewing will be held on Monday, June 22, 2020 at St. John United Methodist Church between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Per church policy, masks and social distancing will be required. The funeral and interment will be private.
