November 19, 1933 – March 29, 2024
Edna Earle Coddington Schultz, 90, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2024.
Edna Earle lived in Richmond, Virginia, until moving to Cocoa Beach, Florida, where she spent over 30 years. She moved to Hatteras in 2021, where her daughter, Donna, cared for her until a higher level of care was needed, and she moved to the Landings of Albemarle in Hertford, N.C. Cocoa Beach was her happy place. Being near the water always made her feel the happiest. Although Cocoa Beach was her favorite place, Hatteras Island was a close second. She loved being on the beach, fishing and sunning. She got to fish a few more times at the age of 88. She cast herself and even caught a few fish. She spoke of those last trips to the beach to fish excitedly until her passing.
She was predeceased by her parents, Earl Edwin and Edna Frances Coddington. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her grandson, Daniel Hackett.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Barnett (Charlie) and Theresa Hackett (Michael); grandchildren, Amanda Spain Paschke, Stephanie Spain, Mary Katherine Spain, Michaelanne Hackett, Hannah Barnett, Brett Barnett, and Colin Barnett; and nine great-grandchildren.
A private family service to celebrate Edna’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation at www.hicf.org, HICF, PO Box 442, Hatteras, NC 27943.
A special thank you to the Landings of Albemarle staff for their exceptional care, particularly Brooke Barham, with whom Edna had a particular fondness and friendship.
