KILL DEVIL HILLS — Hickman Lee Finch II, 72, of Kill Devil Hills, NC, succumbed to kidney failure on July 31, 2024.
Hickman was a native of Henderson, NC, born April 18, 1952, to Hickman Lee Finch and Thelma “Jackie” Jackson Finch. He attended school in Henderson, graduated from Henderson High School, and went on to Louisburg College. He made many lifelong friends during his college years.
Hickman settled back in Henderson, working for J.P. Taylor Tobacco Company for several years. He married Lisa Elaine Johnson, daughter of Charles Edward Johnson and Thelma Holmes Johnson in 1982. They had two children, a daughter, Rachel Emmaline Finch, and a son, Paxton Lee Finch. Hickman established himself as a Restaurant Manager while in Henderson.
In 2001, the Finch family moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where Hickman continued with his work in the restaurant industry. They moved into the Colington Harbour Community in Kill Devil Hills where Hickman quickly became active in the Homeowner’s Association, including serving as Board President.
Hickman is survived by his wife, Lisa, daughter, Rachel Olds, and son, Paxton Finch. Rachel is married to Sean Christian Olds. They have two children, Violet Dare Olds, who just celebrated her first birthday, and Kingston Patrick Olds.
Hickman is survived by one sister, Jackie Finch Jackson (Harvey Douglas Jackson, husband), and two sisters-in-law, Jill Johnson King (Milton Hartwell King, husband) and Beth Johnson Edwards (Jody Thomas Edwards, husband).
He is preceded in death by his mother and father and one beloved niece, April King.
He is survived by nephews Douglas, David, Brian, and Bradley Jackson, and their families, Charles and Nicholas King, and Brandon, Cody, and Logan Edwards, and great-nephew Thomas Elliot.
Hickman had many hobbies, including participating in local politics, cooking for family and friends, and shooting at the local gun range. Hickman’s true talent was in telling jokes! He never forgot a joke he ever heard, and was quick to lighten the mood among friends and family. He will be remembered for his incredible humor and quick-wit.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 24, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Colington Harbour Yacht and Racket Club Clubhouse.
