AVON — James Edward Hooper of Avon, NC, passed away June 9, 2023 as the result of injuries he suffered in a tragic vehicle accident that also claimed the life of his father, Oley Grayson Hooper the day before. James or “Jamie” as he was lovingly known, was born in Elizabeth City, NC July 11, 1982. Besides his father, Jamie was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Blanche and Oley E. Hooper; and his mother, Deborah Davis, and his maternal grandparents, Myrna and Harvey Robke.
Jamie was a true Kinnakeeter and loyal Duke Fan. He loved to boogie board and spent many long, sunny days at Avon Pier. Jamie will be terribly missed by his family and friends who will remember him as a kind, humble, and loving person.
Jamie leaves his wife and best friend of 21 years, Monica Hooper and their six-year-old daughter, Nova both of Avon, NC; his two step-daughters, Jasmine Quidley of Hatteras, NC and Victoria Reyes of Bath, NC; his granddaughter Aria, also of Bath, NC; one sister Jennifer Avery and husband, Pete of Morehead City, NC; his two nephews, Alex and Hunter; his sister-in-law, Jessica Reyes and his niece, Amara Reyes both of Asheville, NC as well as numerous other family members and close friends.
Jamie’s funeral celebrating his life will be held at St. John United Methodist Church in Avon, Monday, June 26, 2023, at 2 pm. Reverend Gina Miller will officiate. The family will gather privately at a future time for the burial of Jamie’s urn.
